Sometimes the first initial cards dealt by the dealer are the cards of the same value (a pair). If there are two equal cards the player will not lose anyway. The dealer deals the third card. If the value of the third card is different from the value of the first two cards the player is given his bet back.
Sometimes the two cards dealt by the dealer are consecutive. The example of consecutive cards is 7 and 8 or J and Q. A red Dog is places on the table to indicate the spread between two cards.
When the spread is announced and marked (by the Red Dog), players have to decide whether they want to raise an initial bet or not.
